Titanium dioxide is an endocrine disruptor that is widely used in cosmetics and sunscreens due to its SPF factor. Although titanium dioxide is a naturally occurring mineral, it is a suspected carcinogen which may cause cellular and organ system malfunction. Its toxicity has been found to be severe when inhaled. The level of toxicity is dependent on the particulate size - the smaller the particles the more toxic it is. If titanium dioxide is nano-sized, it can be absorbed through the skin and into the blood stream which may cause a myriad of health issues.
